First, remember that you don\u2019t have to\nbe perfect, just consistent. For example, flossing just 3-4 times a week isn\u2019t\nideal, but doing it every week will make a big difference. Something is always\nbetter than nothing, and 3-4 times a week is a great place to start. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second, try different tricks to make your routine more\nconvenient. You might find it easier to brush and floss right after dinner instead\nof waiting until bedtime. Or, some people keep floss at work and do it after\nlunch each day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, experiment with one of the many tools out there\nthat can help you be more effective. Minimize the Harmful Effects of Sugar <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These days, sugar is everywhere, but you don\u2019t have to give\nup your favorite sweet foods and drinks entirely. In addition to simply <em>reducing<\/em> the overall sugar content in\nyour diet, here are some ways to minimize its negative impact:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Don\u2019t\nsnack or graze<\/strong> \u2013 Remember the phrase, \u201cSip all day, get decay.\u201d If you want\nsomething sweet like soda or a coffee with sugar, try to finish it within 20-30\nminutes instead of sipping on it throughout the day. And avoid grazing on\ncarbohydrate-laden foods like candies, dried fruit, chips, etc. Simply enjoy\nthem as a single snack or as part of a meal.&nbsp;\n<\/li><li><strong>Chew\nsugar-free gum<\/strong> \u2013 If you can\u2019t brush after eating or drinking, chewing sugar-free\ngum is a great way to stimulate salivary flow and wash away plaque and food\ndebris. It also neutralizes the acids that cause cavities. <\/li><li><strong>Swish\nwith water <\/strong>\u2013 If you can\u2019t brush and don\u2019t have sugar-free gum handy after consuming\nsomething sweet, rinse your mouth out with water a few times to remove any harmful\nsugars and acids left behind.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Schedule Regular Checkups With a Dentist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not uncommon to think that skipping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.springhousedentist.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">checkups<\/a>\nwill save you time and money, but the truth is that it will actually cost you\nin the long run.
