Why Veneers Are Known As Instant Orthodontics

While some people think about orthodontics as being exclusive to adolescents, the truth is that many adults are also unhappy with the alignment of their smile. However, these same people are also often a little bit reticent to take on the task of wearing orthodontic appliances.

If that describes you, you may be pleased to hear that there’s a way to completely change the alignment of your smile in as little as two appointments—veneers! If you want to learn more about how veneers can align your smile, here’s what you should know.

How Can Veneers Align My Smile?

If you’re dealing with crooked, gapped, or otherwise misaligned teeth, there are two fundamental ways that you can address this issue: you can either change the position of your teeth, or you can alter the shape of them.

Braces take the first tactic. They keep your teeth completely intact but move them into a new position, allowing them to easily fit together. While Invisalign aligners look very different, they do the same thing.

However, it’s equally possible to fix misalignment by changing the shape of your teeth. This makes sense if you think about it—crooked teeth are really just teeth that are shaped in such a way that they overlap, and gapped teeth just aren’t large enough to meet. By shaving down a small portion of your enamel and layering a shard of porcelain onto them, veneers could potentially remedy this issue.

What Can’t Veneers Deal With?

While veneers can repair minor misalignment easily, there are some issues that you’ll need braces for. For one, veneers aren’t really able to handle problems with your bite, like an overbite or underbite. They’re also poorly suited to addressing teeth that are tilting backward or forward.

While veneers can do incredible things for the alignment of your teeth, there are some ways in which it’s limited, meaning that you would have to talk to your dentist to determine for sure whether they’re an option for you. If they are, you may be able to get the smile of your dreams in no time at all!
